Some Changes at Craftsy

Some of you may have heard that Craftsy will be making some changes. I recieved an email a couple of days ago informing me that the pattern site will be undergoing an overhaul and that my store will not be closed but they will be deleting some of my patterns. I will no longer have a say as to what will stay or go. I also loose the ability to post my patterns to the site on my own. Many designers were told their stores will be closing.... period. Many independent designers will be left with no store and no income. Given only a short time to ponder what to do (10 days) I have decided to go with it and see what they keep and delete from my pattern site. Given such a short heads up during the holidays no less has left me frazzled. I have to admit, I have not been posting as many PDF patterns to my Craftsy site over the last year. I have been working on offering PDF downloads on my website as an alternative. I did like using the Craftsy platform to post my monthly BOM patterns but have decided that for 2019, all of the BOM information and pattern links will be on my website and blog only. I will not be posting the 2019 BOM on Craftsy. This is a bummer for me since I have a huge following on Craftsy and I'm not sure of any other way to reach them. So please help me out and spread the word about the 2019 BOM from Quilt Doodles. I have a tab on the top of the blog with all of the current information.

Now back to Craftsy…. Craftsy has assured us that the patterns will remain in your pattern library but I would strongly suggest you download any files to your computer as soon as possible as a precaution.  Any patterns that you have on file with them. I also plan on printing off the patterns I have purchased over the years and stashing them in my pattern notebook. Better to be safe then sorry...

I want to thank you for your support. I truly appreciate you! Without you, I would not be doing what I do. I appreciate every comment, every purchase, every suggestion, all your kind words. Do know, I read every comment even though I don't always take the time to respond, something I need to get better at.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happiest of Holiday Seasons!

Merry Christmas!

Wilson

My sewing buddyMy poor Wilson is or has lost his sight... we are very sad at our home. A recent visit to the vet for some routine grooming confirmed what we sorta all ready knew... Wilson is losing his sight. He's not very old... We were hoping that it was just his fur in the way of his eyes, but it wasn't. I realized how bad his sight was when I brought him home from the vet.... he didn't know he was home and was bumping into everything. As soon as I pointed out to him where his dog dishes were, then it's like things clicked and his mental map of the house was in place again. I have been crying on and off about it all week. I am so sad that he's unable to watch the birds at the feeders anymore. It explains why he hasn't been camped out at his favorite window lately. With our long cold winter here, we haven't gone to the dog park. Now it breaks my heart that he won't be able to chase the birds out of the tall grass along the pond anymore. I don't think I dare let him off his leash again. Now that I know Wilson needs verbal cues, I have become his seeing eye person. I've changed up playing catch with a tennis ball to throwing a loud, rattly toys that he can follow the sound.  Wilson has another vet visit scheduled for Wednesday to test him to find out what caused his eyesight loss. (So here comes the shameless begging...) By buying any Wilson pattern, all proceeds will go to his vet bill which I'm guessing from the initial estimates will be a big chunk of cash.

Wilson and I thank you in advance for considering a pattern purchase to help defray the cost of his vet bills.

'Roo, roo, roo'  Thank you!
and Wilson too!

A Sweet Little Birdie

I had a wonderful day the other day spent in my sewing room/studio. I felt like I made a lot of progress on several projects. I designed this little bird last spring but just am now getting around to getting it done and the pattern written. I am in love with this sweet little bird. I like to embroider while I'm sitting in front of the TV. It's also a good project to take while traveling in the car. The flying geese border was a breeze to do and I was able to complete my project in an afternoon after I got the embroidery done. This particular sample will be going to the International Quilt Market this fall as one of my new patterns. The patterns will also be available thru Craftsy and Etsy.

Chain sewing my fast flying geese sections...

My center block is trimmed up and all of my pieces for the
border are ready to be sewn together.

Glorious Autumn Block Party

Glorious Autumn Block Party and Super Deals for Quilters  I am thrilled to be one of the 45 designers taking part in The Glorious Autumn Block Party. There have been so many wonderful blocks presented so far.  They would make a beautiful sampler quilt! I'm so happy to have you stop by my blog and check out my 'Oak Wreath ' block. As a designer I find inspiration all around me.  To come up with my block that I designed especially for the Glorious Autumn Block Party, I didn't have to look further than my own back yard. I have a majestic Oak Tree right out my back door.
A free PDF copy of 'Oak Wreath' can be found HERE and HERE. I hope that you have fun making my 'Oak Wreath' block.
This majestic Oak tree graces my backyard.

The leaves were just starting to change as I worked on designing my block. It was perfect Minnesota fall weather, sunny and in the low 70's with a slight breeze... love it!

I cut 9  4 1/2" blocks to create my background for my block.  I'm using Hoffman's Bali Handpaints.

I laid my blocks out to create a 9-patch block.

Traced leaves on heat and bond, all ready to be ironed onto my contrasting leaf fabric.

I arranged the leaves out on to my 9-patch block overlapping stems and leaves to form a wreath.
Then I iron them onto the block.

The finished block. This would make a lovely wallhanging, pillow, table runner for fall.
Make a set of 12 and it would be a fantastic lap quilt for fall.  For a different look you could
use a cream background with fall colored leaves. I also think this block would look  nice with
stems quilted on the leaves. Quilting would make this block pop.

Dots on Dots! My Turn!

Dot on Dots Blog Hop has been so much fun so far!   A huge Thank you to Madame Samm for another awesome hop and to Connie at Quilt Taffy!  I have to admit, I'm a dot-o-phobic... sorta scared to buy dot fabric, use dot fabric.  I know that's crazy because there are tons of fabulous fabric out there to use!  So this was a good challenge to help me get over my dot fear.  So I dug around in my fabric and found a fabulous collection of scraps that I actually bought on Etsy, there were some wonderful dot fabrics included.  I've been saving this fabric to make a quilt.... so I came up with this fun quilt square which is quick and easy to put together.  I hope that you enjoy my block.... which turned into a quilt.  The pattern for my quilt can be found on Etsy and Craftsy.... I have called it 'Laundry Day'.... the colors are fresh and bright, like clean laundry hanging on the clothes line.

Here is one of my blocks for my quilt.... it measures 12 1/2" (this includes seam allowance) I really like the green dot fabric.
Then there is this block with the blue dot fabric.... love this one too!
"What..... why can't I lay  down here?"
Here is a section of my "Laundry Day" quilt with my Dot blocks...
Here is 'Laundry Day' laided out on my kitchen table, all ready to be pinned for quilting....

Lime green with white dots...... I had so much fun free motion quilting!

A funky flower dot.....

More lime green....

A fun lime green and pink dot fabric!

Well, as a recovering Dot-a-phobic.... I quilted 'dots' too!  It was a lot of fun to do.

The finished quilt!

So as a fun giveaway, I will be giving away a PDF copy of my  'Laundry Day' pattern to two lucky winners.  Leave me a comment about if you have any quilt-phobias.... for a second chance to win, follow me too.  (For a third chance to win.... tweet about it)  Wilson and I will draw the lucky winners on September 21st.

Grab your cup of coffee and enjoy the hop!  I get to share today with these talented quilters!
