July's Block

July is here and boy is it hot!  Our air conditioner has crapped out so it is especially warm around here. I have every fan that we own plugged in and the dogs have discovered how nice and cool the ceramic tile is. I have not resorted to laying on the bathroom tile yet, but I can be found with my head in the freezer. Hubby is getting qoutes for a new AC and the resounding remark from everyone so far is 'Wow! That sure is an old unit. I've never seen one that old before."  Our guess is it's original with our house which was built in the 70's. One company wants our old AC to put on display in their showroom. It's that old, LOL. For all of the complaining I did about the cold last winter. I take it all back. As I melt here, I am dreaming of lying naked in a snowbank.

This month's block is a fun one. A snowboarding snowman! Both of my boys snowboard. They loved hanging out with their friends on Buck Hill growing up. I loved it too because I knew where they were.

John goofing around with Thomas' snowboard in my family room. Notice the pose? It's the same pose that I used for the snowman block this month.

The picture that inspired this month's design.
Following the instructions provided by the fusible web manufacturer, trace 1 set of the snowman design pieces grouping together pieces that will be using the same fabric.    Cut pieces out.  Follow the pattern placement sheet, center on cream color block background.

 Iron in place.

This is the layout for the on point square block. You will use the 4" ad 4 3/8" blocks that you have cut out of the 9 fat quarters. The key to this block is to make it scrappy looking.

This is the setting I'm using on my machine for stitch length and width for my buttonhole stitch.

Using a blanket, zig zag or satin stitch on your sewing machine; sew along the edges of all the pieces. Following the design picture.  Practice on some scrap material if you are new to machine appliqué.  If you prefer hand stitching, you can do a blanket stitch using pearl cotton.  Referring to the picture Embroider the snowman’s arms. Using French knots and black pearl cotton, embroider the snowman’s eyes and smile.

Sew on buttons following the pattern picture for placement.

To finish this cute design, I embellished my square with some special buttons from Just Another Button Company. I do have these buttons available in my Etsy Shop. Pattern can be found on the Quilt Doodle Designs Website. It's a Free download this month only.  I will not be sewing my buttons onto my quilt top until after I have it all done and quilted. I will also be offering some extra postings for you wool workers out there too! This BOM will be offered the first of every month. Like always, it's FREE for the month that the block is out, then there's a small fee if you have to play catch up to get the block. To make sure that you don't miss any of it,  join my mailing list. Not only will you get all of the BOM 2018 postings and updates, but you will also hear about all sorts of other fun quilty goodness too! I do not sell or share my mailing list with anyone. Just an FYI since all this stuff on GDPR.

Button kits are available in my Etsy Shop too!

Fabric kits are available in my Etsy shop for the 2018 Snow Much Fun BOM! The kit includes your border and block fabrics. This year's quilt is a flannel quilt that will be super warm and cozy when it's finished. I am also working with Just Another Button Company for some adorable buttons to embellish your quilt with. These buttons are available in my Etsy shop.

I only have ONE fabric kit left in the Quilt Doodle Etsy shop.

I will not be selling anymore kits, when they're gone, they're gone. Please note that substitutions may be made when some fabrics 'run out' but the substitutions will be equally as cute! Fabric kit does not include backing or binding

Finished quilt measures 60" x 72"

  3. Thank you for your free Snow Much More BOM. I am like a kid in a candy shop waiting for the next month's design to be available. They are all so super cutie and I love making each one. I choose to do mine with a hand blanket stitch.
