News & Foragers
This week I completed two blocks from the Civil War Diary Quilt Book, 'News' & 'Foragers'. I paper pieced both blocks but know that 'Foragers' could have been done just as easily as a rotary cut block. I am thrilled that I now have the second row done.... 22 blocks done so far... 99 more to go. I sit here and wonder how these ladies pieced together such masterpieces, and took care of farms & children while their husbands were away fighting. I can barely get dinner on the table most nights, I'm never caught up on laundry, my house is a mess and I live with many modern conveniences.
So here's the next two blocks...

Hope that you're able to join me in my journey. Feel free to email me any time if you have questions or comments.

So here's the next two blocks...
Again, I picked colors similar to the book, pulling from my Civil War fabric stash.... |
This block is broken down into three sections for paper piecing. |
Here I am sewing 'on the lines' as I paper piece, sewing past the 1/4 inch seam allowance. |
The three sections are completed but not trimmed up... |
All trimmed and ready to sew my 1/4" seams |
Piecing the sections together.... |
'News' September 25, 1862 |
Then I picked out my fabric for 'Foragers', picking out a dark and medium fabric from my Civil War Fabric. I picked out a brown print and a darker navy blue/red print to go with the cream muslin. |
Sewing on the lines.... |
The sections all pieced and trimmed and ready to be sewn. |

It's Friday!
Yeah!!! Yippee!!! It's Friday Night Sew In. A couple of quilting friends had a quilters' day out at Quilt Cove. I was envious as they talked about it at book club last night. I was so tempted to call in, hack, hack, sneeze, sick and stay home and sew. But, I drug myself out of bed, drank a boat load of coffee and went to work. As soon as I was greeted by all my little sweeties at school, I forgot all about quilters' day out. So now, the grocery shopping is done, dinner is made. I have my bowl of jelly beans and my mug of coffee, it's finally time to go play in my sewing room... I have plenty of projects to do, so tune in tomorrow and check out the Civil War Blocks that I get done and see how I did them. I'm sure I will have other goodies to share with you too!
Happy sewing!

Victuals, June 5th 1862
What a beautiful weekend it has been here in Minnesota. Spent a fun day yesterday with my mom and sister, Laura visiting a couple of quilt shops. Came home with some treasures that I can share for Civil War Saturdays. Found some red Moda Civil War fabric at Pine Needles in Racine. I used it in today's Civil War Diary block, Victuals. Also picked up an adorable pattern for a chatelaine. I want to make it to include in my next Civil War Saturday giveaway! I'm close to celebrating having a second row done! Woot woot!
So let's get started on this week's block, Victuals.
Victuals n (usu pl) food, provisions. *vt (victualling, victualed or victualling, victualled) to supply with food; to take in provisions.

Fabric choices are again similar to what is presented in the Civil War Diary book. I love the red fabric that I picked up at Pine Needles. |
Lining up the next fabric to be sewn... |
Sewing on the line, sewing 1/4" pass the 'line'... notice the seams I have done so far... |
After you sew the seam, remember to trim to a scant 1/4" seam... |
Two sections done, two more to go! |
