Scrappy Hats QAL Day 5

Today we will work on snowman hat brim #4, Scrappy Triangles. Again mix up the colors so that you are not repeating any of the fabrics in this block. This block won't take very long to make. 15 minutes or so, that can be easily fit into a day. My mom tries to sew a little bit every day. It's amazing how much you can get done in a week when you sew just a little bit each day.  If you are a beginner quilter, today's block uses an easy technique to create a triangle block. So pick out 6 fabrics for the hat brim, not using the same fabric as you did for the hat rectangle block. Remember the hat brims are meant to be scrappy. I hope that you are having fun with the QAL so far. If you are using the 13 fat quarters listed on the pattern for the hat brims and not pulling from your stash it is important to rotate thru the colors making sure not to repeat the same color as what is used on the snowman hat rectangle. This will help disperse the colors throughout the quilt top. There is NO set color for each block. If you are pulling out of your stash and don't want to think about color, feel free to follow the colors on the quilt layout picture that is at the bottom of this block post. So grab a snack and let's go and sew...
Following the pattern directions cut your six fabric squares. The green in the photo is my snowman hat rectangle I'm using for this block.

Randomly pair your fabric squares right sides together and sew from corner to corner.

Trim away the excess fabric leaving a 1/4" seam. Press open.

Sew the three triangle square together to form the scrappy brim as pictured.

Sew the hat brim onto the snowman hat rectangle.

Then sew on the snowman face rectangle. Press

Remember the carrot and eyes are not added to the block yet!

Isn't it fun making snowman blocks! I just love them! If you feel extra ambitious, you can make extra ones for an adorable table runner to match your quilt! See you tomorrow for the next snowman quilt block! Remember to share your block on Instagram #scrappyhatsqal @quiltdoodledesigns

Happy Quilting!
