April's Block

http://www.quiltdoodledesigns.com/BOM-2017.html
Happy spring! The April block for Garden Sunshine is all ready. I have been enjoying seeing everyone's blocks from last month! This month's block is a pieced basket. It will challenge your cutting and piecing skills! Just one block this month. I also need to apologize for the late posting. I meant to have it up and ready to go yesterday but when I arrived home from quilt retreat at mom's, I sat on the couch with Belvedere and it was all over. Both Belvedere and I fell asleep and hubby reports we both were snoring.... this I cannot deny. I was pretty tired when I got home. I got three UFO's quilted and bound at mom's. I'm pretty pleased with how much I accomplished. Now back to April's block.... it's a sweet nostalgic basket block. I made mine using yellow and orange 1930's fabric. You can have fun and make your basket any color you want! You need two contrasting colors and then a third color for the base. (I used green on my block.)

The monthly FREE pattern will be available on my website. I have a special 2019 BOM section on my website. Each month the FREE pattern will be posted. But as soon as the new section or block is out the old block pattern will no longer be a freebie. But it will still be available for a small fee on my website or in my Etsy shop. If you want to share you finished blocks, feel free to post them on Facebook Group (Quilt Doodle Designs Garden Sunshine BOM 2019) and tag me or post them on Instagram tag Quilt Doodle Designs. I love to see everyone's progress as we stitch along together.
Let me show you how I made this month's block. First, following the directions cut out all of the block pieces...
These are the three colors I'm using for this month's block along with the background white fabric.

Following the cutting guide in the directions I rotary cut everything out and then laid it out on my cutting mat so that I can keep track of the pieces and what sections are sewn together.  I used a scant 1/4" seam. The finished block will measure 12 1/2" x 12 1/2". This includes the seam allowance.

This month's block takes a little time to put together and is a bit of a puzzle to piece but it's certainly worth the time it takes to stitch together. Hope you are having a great day, remember March's block is no longer FREE. It can be found in my ETSY shop and also on the Quilt Doodle Website for a small fee. To get this month's block, head on over to Quilt Doodle Designs... remember this block is only available this month as a FREE PDF download.

Happy Quilting!

  1. Thank you so much Cindy.I haven't made a basket block with handles like this and it looks a little intimidating, but I am sure I will get it figured out with your instructions.

  2. Thank you for another monthly pattern. Piecing is not my strong suit but this is so pretty and your instructions are great so I think I can do it!

  3. Thanks for the April block. It's a little different and I'll be interested in reading the pattern to see if it goes together the way I think it would. =)
