Welcome to my house! Would you like a cup of tea or coffee while you're here? I've also got some cinnamon bread baking in the oven, it smells so good! I am happy to share with you a few houses I've been building. These little 4" squares have been in the works for longer then I want to admit. Let's just say, I've been working on them for YEARS. I thought this blog hop would be a great opportunity to pull them out and work on them some more. I really thought I'd be able to get my house quilt done. But alas, I need a total of 195 house blocks for my quilt. I have 76 done so far...
I was inspired several years ago by a blog posting on the tiny house quilt... I jumped on board and started making houses. I challenged myself to use only scraps.... the concept of the tiny house quilt was great, make one a day, every day and then at the end of the year... then you'd have 365 house blocks. Needless to say.... I fell off the band wagon after about 20 houses.... I also changed up the size. The original block size was 2".... tiny, tiny, houses.... I settled on a 4" finished block instead... still tiny. Using my Electronic Quilt software, I drafted up several different paper piece house designs to make my little village. I had also decided I would also only use fabric scraps. Many of the scraps have come from quilt retreats past. My family and friends would throw their scraps at me during retreat as they got their projects done. I loved it!

| I have used just about every color fabric you can think of. To give the quilt some continuity, I always use a darker blue for the sky. I think it helps to pull all the blocks together. |

| It's so much fun to get some of the blocks I have done up on the design wall. I just love the look of all the scrappy houses together. I was going to put a sashing in between each house, but I decided I like the layout better with no sashing. I've got a cozy neighborhood. There's even a lighthouse block, did you find it? |

| My sister made me a couple houses in the original 2" size, I still wanted to use them so I added some fabric to them so that they would measure 4 1/2". These little houses blend right in with the rest. They're little dog houses with little puppies peeking out of the windows. |
One of these days I'm going to have an awesome house quilt. What I love about it is that it'll be made from scraps that represent a lot of fun memories and friends from Cozy Home quilt retreat.
Oh gosh, I've got to go and get the cinnamon bread out of the oven so we can enjoy some before you head out to visit the other great open houses today! I also need to thank Carol at 'Just Let Me Quilt' for another great blog hop!
