January's Block!

Happy New Year!

I'm really excited about the BOM that I am putting together for 2016. It's a new beginning, a new quilt... Let's have some fun quilting this year. I am not keeping this one a secret... I have the complete layout pictured below. This will make it easy for you to pick out fabrics. I encourage you to dig thru your stash for the block fabrics. Have some fun with this! I bought the background and border fabrics, but I'm winging it using fabric I already have on hand. But I must confess, I did buy some fun fat quarters for some of the blocks.

This month we will start out with the reindeer blocks for the '7th' row or reindeer row. You will make 5 reindeer blocks and the pattern can be found for FREE this month in my Craftsy Shop and also on my website. (I have created a handy dandy 2016 BOM page) Also, if you ever need to find past blocks or tutorials, I have a tab at the top of my blog labeled 2016 BOM that you can click on to get links to all past blog postings for this quilt. A complete listing of fabric supplies can be found on my website, Craftsy Shop and also under the 2016 BOM tab on my blog. There will be prizes each month too, so post pictures of your progress on Instagram #quiltdoodledesignsBOM2016 (you can also tag me at Quilt Doodle Designs
There is also a flickr group you can join and post pictures.

I am also excited to announce that there are button kits available from Hillcreek Designs! The button packs are available in  my Etsy Shop.

Here are the fabrics and block pieces all cut out.

Sewing corner to corner to 'shape' the reindeer face and ears...

Starting to sew the sections together to form the block.

I made my blocks using several different brown fabrics....

Adding on the applique antlers...

I did a buttonhole stich around the antlers using brown thread..

There's also a handy dandy grab-able button to post on your blog to help me promote and get the word out about this fun Christmas BOM .  Please help to spread the word!

 Happy Quilting!

  2. Was on line looking to see if you had posted today and 30 seconds in there you were. The deer are so sweet. Posted your button. Goal for today is to at least pull fabric and then maybe I can get a deer or two done today.

  8. Thank you, Cindy. This looks really fun. I appreciate seeing the whole quilt...I'm actually more likely to start sewing. Mysteries seem to hold me back. Your style is so sweet!
