It's March and time for the BOM for this month. It's an easy peasy one.... the easiest one for the year. We've got to have at least one super easy block just for the fun of it. It's an old fashion 'rail fence' block. This is one of my favorite patterns and if you need a quick quilt to put together, this is a fantastic block. I made my son a rail fence quilt many years ago. It was so much fun to make. You will need 4 fabrics to complete this block, from light to dark. If you are using only two fabrics, just alternate the fabrics in the block. The printable pattern can be found on Craftsy. Past patterns can be found for a small $1.99 fee at my Etsy and Craftsy shops just in case you are just joining the BOM or have missed one.
Here are the four fabrics that I chose for my block. |
Cut 1 2" strip x wof from each color. If you are using fat quarters; cut 2 2" strips x wof from each color. |
Sew together using a 1/4" seam lengthwise, going from light to dark. Iron. |
The width of your 4 strip section should measure 6 1/2". Cut 4 6 1/2" blocks from 4 strip section. |

I've always loved the rail fence pattern too.
ReplyDeleteSuper neat block. Thank you
ReplyDeleteMy very first quilt was a rail fence for my daughter. She saw it in a book and said it looked like lightning. She was scared of storms at the time, so I let her pick the fabrics and we made it to keep her safe on stormy nights. I love that it will be in this quilt! Thank you!
