August's Blocks Embroidered

As many of you know, I have been stitching along making two versions of this years BOM 2017. An appliqued one and an embroidered one. I am happy to announce both are currently getting quilted and I will be doing finishing touches on them soon. I am so looking forward to showing them both to you at the end of the year! If you follow me on Instagram you have seen many sneak peeks and have even seen the finished quilt layout.

I find, as I work on these BOM, my head is spinning with so many different ideas on how to finish and quilt the finished top. I have a really hard time sometimes to set myself on only presenting only one option for the pattern. With this in mind I have decided that both quilts will have different borders so that you have a couple of options on how to finish your quilt top. I have sent my quilts off to two different quilters with different 'instructions', again to show you options on quilting and finishing your BOM 2017 quilt.  I am looking forward to presenting this to you towards the end of the year.

Now onto this month's two blocks... embroidered instead of appliqued! I have to say, I have been enjoying stitching this summer. I did a lot of stitching at the lake with my mom. It's very relaxing and my stitches are improving with practice! Almost as pretty has my mom's handwork! I am using #12 pearl cotton to embroider with. Remember the designs are centered on a 12 1/2" square block and the design is set on point.

~Grandpa's Tractor~

I made my tractor red, you can make yours green, or any color.
My husband suggested that I embroider a 'H' on my tractor. I know nothing about tractors... nothing... my husband grew up on a farm and tells me his grandpa and dad had an 'H'. I have no idea what the 'H' stands for.

~Canning Jars~
I remember one summer that we spent most of our time in grandma and grandpa's basement because of several tornado warnings. One I remember 'hopped' over their farm site and luckily they only lost some trees. I remember sitting with all my cousins among the canning shelves... wondering if I were safer sitting amongst the shelves or just hanging out upstairs.  I have a fear of thunderstorms and severe weather since that summer. During severe weather I can be found wrapped up in a quilt, sitting on the basement couch, huddled with the dogs, checking Doppler radar on my phone as the storm passes thru.

My grandma on the tractor...I love this picture.
I wonder if she was bringing lunch out to the guys in this picture.

Patterns can be found on the Quilt Doodle website and on Craftsy (Not until the 1st of the month). Did you miss a pattern along the way? The past monthly patterns can be found in my Etsy and Craftsy shops for a small fee.

  1. Love the tractor. For hubby,if the tractor was red and had an I in the middle of the Hotels it was an International Harvester tractor. That's whom Dad worked for. 😊❤️
