Happy Anniversary To Me!

While drinking my coffee this morning, I have been pondering, wonder when my Quilt Doodle anniversary is. It's inception happened years ago, every time I doodled myself a pattern because I couldn't find what I was looking for. But the ceremonial beginning of Quilt Doodle Designs was five years ago at quilt retreat when I started to formally draw up designs to share.  I've been officially designing patterns ever since.... it's been such a fun journey so far. I've learned a lot, met so many wonderful quilters so far. I am certainly looking forward to all that is to come! I vow to continue to design and share with you as long as I can hold a pencil and work with needle and thread. Wilson and I have decided to celebrate today with vanilla ice cream cones and pass some savings onto you, our wonderful quilty friends. 25% off with coupon code CAKE4, in my ETSY shop only.

You can find her designs on Craftsy, Etsy and also on her Blog. Some are free too! I hope that you take some time to check out her patterns, they are fabulous!

Sunflowers Fields

Sunflower Fields
When I was a kid, every summer was spent at my Grandma and Grandpa's farm in North Dakota. Back in  70's I remember fields of sunflowers and wheat. It is burned into my memory how golden it was. It was a golden time in my childhood.... lazy mornings waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs, homemade sweet rolls,  4th of July fireworks, family barbecues, kittens, homemade cookies and grandma's apples and banana salad. I can always count on inspiration from my childhood and memories, so I have yet a new pattern, capturing the golden fields of sunflowers and the waves of golden wheat fields.

I am in need of a few testers... because...
I've been staring at this the last 8 hours....
and since I was staring at a computer screen the last 8 hours...
I had a couple of these....
So who knows what grammer errors and mistakes I'm missing as I proof read.... I need help. So if you are interested in testing my new pattern. Email me, I would love to hear from you. Before you join in the fun, let me tell you a little about this pattern...... it is written for three sizes, lap, double and king....(king sized is pictured) no you don't need to make all three... just one.  It's meant to be a scrappy quilt, so using your fabric stash is permitted, (you don't have to go out and buy fabric if you don't want to.) Just make sure the fabric you pull from your collection matches the amounts that I specify. There's a bit of applique in this quilt.... not only the leaves and stems but there are little bumble bees too... my little signature bee that has shown up on a project or two in the past. Can't have flowers without the bumble bees.... love them. Also.... You need to commit to have the quilt top done within a couple of weeks. It doesn't have to be quilted, just the top pieced and appliqued. If you don't have time to sew, I could use a proof-reader.

So while you are testing, I will be busy quilting this beauty...

Looking forward to hearing from you,

August's Block is Out!

Do you have a 'Sweet Tooth', I know I sure do! Every Christmas I make several batches of homemade caramel. Love caramel, so yummy. My nieces and nephews help me wrap  the caramel, they enjoy the samples while they wrap away. This month's strip is a row of wrapped candy. So what kind of candy will you have? Caramel, homemade taffy, butterscotch buttons or cinnamon red hot disks? Have fun with this month's section.

You can make all the candies with the same fabric, or mix it up and make each wrapper a different color. For my candies I used a red strip since I wrap my caramels in pretty wax paper for the holidays. I have also decided to make the background scrappy using two blue fabrics of the same hue.

The 'Sweet Tooth' pattern can be found  HERE and on Craftsy. The pattern is free for the month of August. If you missed Chilly Silly Snowmen, Cozy Cabin or Big Tree, Sparkling Stars, Fir Tree, Northern Hockey Skates or Toasty Mugs, it's not too late to get the patterns. They can be found for a small fee on Etsy and Craftsy.

The fabrics I have chosen to do my 'Sweet Tooth' strip with...
Using a pen or pencil, draw a line from corner to corner.
Pair with a blue background square,
right sides together, sew a scant
1/4" seam on each side of the line.
With your rotary cut, cut from corner to corner,
then cut from corner to corner again.

From one block your will get 8 triangle sections.
From these eight sections,  sew together 4 hour glass blocks.
Square them up to measure 2 1/2" square.  I had to pay attention
to the stripes in my fabric when piecing together my hour glass blocks.
I laid my blocks out alternating the direction of my stripe
on my 'candy' blocks (hour glass blocks)

Following the strip layout it's time to piece your strip together.

Remember to post your finished Sweet Tooth strip onto the Flickr account for a chance to win the prize at the end of the month! If you blog about it, please email me a link so that I can attach it to the Pinterest Board I have going for the BOM 2014. I hope you have fun with this section of the mystery quilt. It can easily be done in a weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's candies! As you can see with the quilt layout that the quilt is coming along nicely. There's still some surprises! 'll be announcing the prize for this month's block around the 15th and the winner will be announced on September 1st, when the next section is out.

Happy Quilting,
Cindy
