Playing in the Dirt!

I love planting flowers and this year I have more time to devote to my gardening. My beloved greenhouse that I loved to work at part-time in the spring has closed. After 125 years of business, the family decided to close up shop last fall. I really miss my favorite greenhouse this year. Change is good, right, the closure is forcing me to discover new places to shop for plants. I have visited a few different places searching for my favorites. I was so spoiled. Tomato plants have disappear off the shelves by Memorial Day.... who knew, not I! (I was so used to buying them right off the truck as I unloaded them) I was unable to locate any of my tried and true tomato plants, so I'm trying out some new varieties. Actually I had no choice, I bought the last four packs of tomatoes.  I'm sure they will be wonderful, I love tomatoes. We will be planting our veggie garden on Monday. Last weekend I planted flower pots and started pulling weeds out of the perennial gardens. (It's going to take me all summer to get the perennial gardens looking great again) Let me share a few pictures of my progress so far.
First springtime bloom this year!
My favorite place to drink my coffee....
Gnome garden... this year I planted Irish Moss, Rosemary, Lavender and Chamomile in
my gnome pot. I think it missing something, so later today I'm going to make a gazing ball
using a golf tea, marble and some silver wire.

Herbs in pots, and more Garden Gnomes...
Wilson enjoyed hanging outside with me as I gardened...
I brought my Pineapple plants out for the summer.
I'm too embarrassed to take pictures and show you the state of my perennial gardens. I'll take pictures after I do a bit of weeding. Right now they are a total mess! It's also my birthday this weekend. I'm going to eat some cake and do my favorite things. Spend time with my family, do some gardening, some quilting, drink some coffee on the deck and take Wilson for a walk or two. In celebration of my 29th plus tons of experience birthday, I have a 50% off coupon available in my ETSY shop. Remember to enter in the code BIRTHDAY to get your discount.

Have a wonderful weekend,

May's Prize!

BOM 2014
It's been enjoyable to see everyone's Fir Trees this month. I love how each tree is a little different. May's block can still be found for free on Craftsy and also HERE. There's still time to download your free pattern and sew along with us this month. The prize this month has been donated to us by Marcus Brothers They have donated  three 1/2 yard cuts from their 'Tweet for Two' designed by Nancy Rink. All you have to do to win, is post a picture of your block in the flickr group for Quilt Doodle BOM 2014, or blog about the block of the month. If you blog about the BOM, make sure to email me a link so that I can check it out and pin it to my BOM group on Pinterest.
Spring is here and this is a fun giveaway for May!
I will announce a winner June 1st when the new block comes out. So here are just some of this month's Fir Trees that have been posted so far. There are so many awesome blocks in the flickr group.  Everyone has done such a wonderful job so far! It's fun to see the blocks and strips together. Our quilts are slowly taking shape.

Now I'm off to do some gardening, weeds to pull, flowers to plant in hope that Minnesota will warm up just a little more. Wilson is patiently waiting for me to grab his leash so he can join me outside. I hope that you all have a wonderful day and find some time to do your favorite things.

Happy quilting,

Wilson Update...

Just a quick note to update you on Wilson. He is a smiling happy boy who is adapting well to his new blindness, much better than I am. I sometimes forget that he can't see since he has our home mapped out so well. He follows me around the house closely by my side but I need to remember to give him verbal cues or he will stop and I will find myself downstairs, or in my sewing room Wilson-less. So I call and find him and coax him along. I want to Thank everyone who sent me sweet notes and those of you who bought a Wilson pattern (or two, or three). The support and encouraging words were much needed and so comforting. After the vet visit, it has been determined that he has retinal detachment in both eyes and that there isn't anything they can do. All of his blood-work came back normal so his blindness is more than likely a genetic predisposition. Wilson was a rescue, (which I will do again in a heartbeat) we know very little about his parents. Just that 'dad' was a Brittany Spaniel and 'mom' was a Lhasa Apso and the three puppies were left to 'fin' for themselves when rescued. Wilson was one of the three puppies. Even though I'm saddened that he has lost his sight, I am grateful that it wasn't a side effect of something bigger. So, Wilson will be my happy blind boy. I am finding that he likes squeakee toys and jingle balls and we are teaching him some new ways to play.

Again, I thank you all so much for the thoughtful notes and support. Wilson 'roo-roo's Thank you too!
