December's Block

Well, here we are, the last block. I thought a 'star' block would be perfect for December's block. So I choose 'Aunt Eliza's Star' as the final block. For our BOM, I'm taking the liberty to rename it 'Christmas Eve'.... December is a very busy month for all of us, getting ready for Christmas. Our sewing machines are humming non-stop all getting ready for Christmas Eve... hence the name change for the block.  Many of you are probably down to bits and pieces from your fabrics. This block can use either two colors up to four. I used four... let me show you how I completed the last block. It goes together pretty quickly.  The printable pattern can be found Free HERE and on Craftsy. Past patterns can be found for a small $1.99 fee at my Etsy and Craftsy shops just in case you are just joining the BOM or have missed one. All past tutorials can be found listed above, just click the BOM tab.

Here are the four fabrics that I choose for my block.

Out of the background cream... cut 4 ~ 4 1/2" blocks and 1 ~ 5 1/4" block

Cut the 5 1/4" block corner to corner, then corner to corner again to form 4 triangle blocks.

From my red fabric I cut 2 ~ 5 1/4" squares (star points)
Then I cut the square corner to corner, then cut corner to corner again to form 4 triangles from each square.
From you other fabrics you will cut:
1 ~ 5 1/4" square (I used dark brown)
Then cut the square corner to corner, then cut corner to corner again to form 4 triangles.
1 ~ 4 1/2" square (center square)
I laid the block out to get ready to sew the block together.
Sew the triangle sections together to form a 4 1/2 square.
I like to chain sew things together....
My square is ironed, make sure to match up your seam.
Sewing the final seam for the triangle block....
Here my 4 1/2" blocks are all laid out ready to sew the Christmas Eve Block together...
Sewing away.....

Been Stitchin'

I can't believe that it's Thanksgiving next week! Everyone tells me it's late this year, but it snuck up on me! I usually have most of my Christmas gifts bought by now, I'm usually working on projects for gifts! I stayed up late last night and was stitching away on some dishtowels. I love to have them on hand to give out as hostess gifts during the holidays. Sometimes I'll pair a cute dishtowel up with a brownie mix for a quick gift for a friend. I'm making extras to take into work to sell too. I think they are adorable, hope my co-workers think so too..... I also want to get around to making some table runners and a few other projects for gift giving. I feel like I'm so behind, I'm sure I am in good company (wink-wink). I'll be pulling out some of my fun quilty items to decorate with sometime this weekend too. I would love to share some of them with you too!
My NEW gingerbread girl mug rug pattern! Right now it's only available thru Craftsy and Etsy as an instant downloadable PDF.

Here's Nutmeg, my gingerbread boy mug rug pattern, it is also NEW!

Frosty is a quick applique that can be finished in an afternoon.

My penguin mug rug can also be used as a candle mat or small mini quilt.

This is one of my most popular designs... The Grinch. Most of you know I love The Grinch and really thought while growing up that I was Cindy Lou Who. This pattern can be found on Etsy for a small fee but psssst.... it's free on my WEBSITE!

Bundle Up Snowmen

Tasting Snowflakes

Little Deer, one of my first patterns....

I Love making mug rugs.... notice I put a top hat on my snowman....
These are just a few of the holiday/winter projects that I decorate and give to my family and friends as gifts during Christmas. All of these patterns are available on Etsy, Craftsy and also on my Website! (There are some cute little widgets you can click on the sidebar to take you instantly to my online stores)

My patterns are fun to do and many of them can be completed in a weekend or afternoon. Chances are good that you already have fabric in your stash to complete a project or two... I hope that you enjoy my little slide show and take time to check out my patterns! It's not too late to start those holiday projects. I'm off to do some more stitching and grab another cup of coffee. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and find some time to quilt.

Happy Quilting,

Cindy

November's Giveaway!

November is flying by fast isn't it... I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and having a few days off. It'll be so nice to visit with my family. I'm hoping to get a family picture for my Christmas card! It's always a challenge to get both my boys together at the same place to get a picture taken. I hope that you also have fun holiday plans. Before we know it, Christmas will be here too. I don't have any projects started yet! I know some of you are working on your quilts for gifts, what a wonderful idea. Keep working on your quilts! I have a great 'grand' prize put together to celebrate the end of the Quilt Doodle BOM 2013.

For The Boys...

Boys, boys, I have a house of all boys... so I picked a project to show you that is certainly boy-ish. First let me thank Madame Samm and Amy at Sew Incredibly Crazy. My boys used to play baseball and over the years we have seen plenty of games. So the quilt I'm showing you is my baseball quilt that I made Thomas.
I started out by making a rail fence quilt using 2" strips... I then added some borders.

To make the baseballs, I layered two squares of fabric right sides together and traced a circle using a bowl out of my pantry. I then trimmed a scant 1/4" seam and clipped the curves. Turned my circles inside out and ironed them. Then here's the fun part, I found a stitch on my sewing machine that looked like the stitching on a baseball. I sewed two half circles onto my circle and voila! A baseball. I made several baseballs and then appliqued them onto my quilt top.

I then quilted my quilt and 'wrote' the lyrics to 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame'.

I used variegated thread... isn't this boyish!
So as my giveaway for this boyish hop, I will giveaway a PDF pattern of my 'Wilson' doodlette. Many of you know, Wilson is my little furry boy. He keeps me company now that my boys are older. So leave a sweet comment for one chance to win and for a second chance, follow me too and let me know that you do! If you are a no-reply blogger, please remember to leave me a way to contact you.

I Want To Hear From You!

I have enjoyed putting together this years BOM for you. It has been fun for me and I hope a lot of fun for you too! I am kicking around ideas for next year's Quilt Doodle BOM and I want to hear from you and get your input! What type of quilt do you want me to design for you for next year's BOM. I want to hear from you! I have too many ideas floating around in my head, I need help to narrow my ideas down! HELP, please take a minute or two to fill out my short, I promise it's short, survey. I thought I would release my survey a little early, before the end of the project... my thinking being that we are getting close to the holidays and things get crazy with the holidays.... The link can be found below....

Even if you didn't get much done, if any of the blocks done this year, I would love your input on what next years quilt should be, do you want a theme, etc....

Wilson and I are looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you!
Happy Quilting!
