A Chickie Pin Keeper

Thank you Madame Samm and Kristen for a fun pin cushion blog hop! I love pin cushions and thought it would be fun to make a chicken pin cushion. I love chickens, wish I could have a couple of chickies, I love fresh eggs. Did you know it takes one dozen egg whites for one angel food cake! Those little chickens have to work pretty hard to supply me with enough eggs for one cake. Usually this time of year the Minnesota State Fair is just getting over, I used to spend an entire week with my sister in law and nephew at the fair. Nathan used to show chickens every year. I have learned more than you could ever know about chickens just spending time with the 4-H kids. So I thought it would be perfect to make a chicken pin cushion! But first let me share a few pictures of my nephew's chickens from a few years ago...

Not all little chicks are yellow... some are brown...
I made this little chick out of some felt.

Two little baby chicks in the garden... I made a thread and
button keeper using a chicken feeder that I picked up at Fleet Farm.
Here's mama chicken....

Isn't it a cute set! A mama chicken pincushion  and a baby chicks thread and button keeper.
So cute for the sewing room! They are sitting in my mom's sewing room right now. ( thought she would
like them so I wrapped them up for her for her birthday. Happy Birthday Mom! I Love You!!)
For my giveaway... I have two  1/2 yard cuts of Primo Plaid to giveaway to a lucky winner. I used
Primo Plaids for the Mama Hen that I made for this hop. All you have to do is leave a sweet comment about anything quilting. For a second chance to win, be a follower too! I'm using rafflecopter again for my giveaway. Wilson and I will pick a winner on September 20th.

I get to share today with a great group of quilters... make sure to check out their posts too!
It's a pincushion parade!

Happy Quilting,

  14. I have a quilting foot warmer also, he is called Ben. When I play with fabrics and new patterns I make a Ben sized quilt for him to assess. I am "swooning" at the moment and his trial is in Pink and cream, not a good combo for a rough tough terrier cross but he loves it.

  21. Love your chicks & hen pin cushions. I keep two pin cushions next to my sewing machine. One has glass head pins & the other has daisy head pins, so depending on what my quilting needs are at that moment, I have the right pins available. Thanks.

  22. So cute! When I was very young my great grandfather lived nearby and he had chickens. I used to love to go and see the "peeps" -- it seemed like he had hundreds of them and they ran around like crazy. Of course, I was probably 4, but it's a good memory.

  53. Your chicken family is adorable. Mama looks real proud. What an inventive way to use the chick feeder. The yo-yos are the perfect touch. My quilting tidbit. A separate pin cushion for each type of pin. It makes it easier to grab the right style of pin for the job. I so dislike finding out I have an applique pin when I wanted a silk pin or a round head pin when I wanted a flower head for paper piecing. Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway.

  75. I learn lots from these hops and have great memories - like 4-H. I did the sewing and cooking route and my brothers did butterflies and purebred Hampshire sheep. Your chickens and button holders are adorable. My favorite quilting thing is a handcrafted seam ripper my brother made for me from wood from his FIL's property which was across the road from the one-room elementary school we attended. He got the sharp, sharp seam ripper kit and then hand crafted the handle. It was a complete surprise in my mailbox one day. Thanks for participating and the wonderful eye candy.
