My Words

In my own words.....

I want to first thank Linda from Buzzing andBumbling and Madame Samm  for a fun blog hop! I loved the freedom to decide on a project with this one. I decided to make a pillow with some words that inspire me. I've been collecting 'pillows' on my pinterest, so gazing upon my board for some inspiration on how I will make my project....

Using some words that inspire me, I made two pillows. This was such a fun project to do.  I finally made something just for me.  So here is how I made my projects.... I hope it inspires you to make some too!

My number one word.... "Family"
I used my machine and embroidered it using Curlz font on aged cotton from Marcus Brother.

I dug thru my stash and found this fun fat quarter.... it's words
but in French.  My French is super rusty.... I could only make
out a few words....

Here I am embroidering more inspirational words... "Love, Faith, Hope"
I am using aged cotton from Marcus Brothers.... I made a layer of backing, batting
and the aged cotton to embroider on.

I cut my front of the pillow to a size I liked. Here I am adding
fabric strips to make a border. Then I added a backing. I layered right sides together and sewed
a 1/4" seam all around leaving a few inches open for turning. I used the
same technique as what was used in the Holiday Lane pillow.

Turn your pillow right side out.....

It would also be a cute table runner if left like this....

I am stitching in the ditch, thru all the layers. Remember to leaving an
opening for stuffing your pillow. Stuff your pillow and sew seams closed.

Now onto my other pillow.  I cut a couple of strips of fabric about 3 1/2" wide and twice the length of
the pillow. I will be making a gathered trim...

Gather the top and bottom of the fabric to the width of your pillow.
I have it pinned to the pillow a few inches up from the edge. Then sew
a 1/4" to 1/2" seam.  I will repeat this process on the top edge too.

Iron. Then stay stitch along the bottom edge.

Here the top and bottom edges of my pillow are done and all trimmed up. Then layer
pillow top (right side up) with the backing (right side out) sew scant 1/4" around the
edge, remember to leave a section open for stuffing.

With the French words fabric ... I made a seam binding using 2 1/4" strips and then sew
them onto the pillow as if binding a quilt. Remember to leave a section open  for stuffing.
Stuff the pillow and sew openings closed.

Now it's time to make some fabric roses. I was so excited to try to make these!
I used 2" and 2 1/2"  x wof strips...
I found a tutorial on how to make the roses HERE

My beautiful roses....

after making several roses... I embellished my pillows with them.
My finished 'Words' pillows...

I love how they turned out! I think I will let them grace my bedroom.
My husband thinks they look lovely but says 'do we really need them?'
Of coarse we do! They are sooooo pretty!

So now onto my giveaway! I am giving away 1 yard of some lovely fabric full
of inspirational sayings..... All you have to do is leave a comment. Any sweet comment!
For a second chance to win, let me know if you follow.... Wilson and I will pick out a
lucky winner at the end of the hop.

This giveaway is now closed.....
I get to share today with these talented quilters! I hope that you have fun hopping around and are also inspired by their words....

  19. I'm just in awe of all the creativity of everyone and it certainly didn't stop here. I love this project. Family is important to me, too! And I love the pillow, the embroidery, the gathered trim, the French words, the roses, etc. Well, maybe it would be easier if I told you what I didn't like. Wait, I wouldn't have anything to say. Now, I know what I haven't decided to participate yet. I just don't have this kind of creativity. After I see what others do then I think, AHA, I might be able to do that - after the fact. Congrats on a job well done!

Family, is one of the most important words in the english language. Our family can mean different things to so many different people, but one thing for sure we can never change who God has given us. They are ours no matter what. So let's learn to love and appreciate each and everyone of them. Life is so short, so let's love, laugh and enjoy them while and when we can.
